Department of History

Hello, I'm Abdullah Aydın. I am a 2nd year student in the Department of History of Social Sciences University of Ankara, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. The History Department is essentially a department established to provide interdisciplinary and expert training in the field. The language of education in our department is English and they also provide an additional foreign language. In addition to the Interdisciplinary History Program, there are courses related to resource research, first-hand resource and archival use. Our department is located in a historically significant location in the Ulus district on the main campus of Social Sciences University of Ankara. The courses given in our department focus on covering Ottoman, European, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean history. Ulus district, where our department is located, has many historically important places and museums, which is important for research. In addition, there are clay and cuneiform workshops in our department. The cuneiform writing system that emerged in 4000 BC is studied here. Thanks to the ERASMUS program that our school is part of, we have the chance to receive undergraduate education and internships abroad. In addition, students in their third year can do internships in Turkish State departments. A student who graduated from the Social Sciences University of Ankara Department of History has the opportunity to pursue an academic career both abroad and at home with his academic knowledge and English education. In addition, students who do not have an academic goal are provided with the opportunity to progress in a field of their choice in both the state and the private sector.
My interest in history began in high school. I chose this department in order to make sense of history, which is misunderstood by our society and used for misinformation, and also to pursue an academic career. The fact that the language of education of Social Sciences University of Ankara is English and because of the fact that it provides additional language training, the strength of its academic staff allows me to step up the academic career ladder faster. That's why I chose the Social Sciences University of Ankara. As a history student at Social Sciences University of Ankara, the library is the place I benefit the most from. In the library located in our Sumerbank building, I have access to all the resources we need both in Turkish and English, both physical and online resources. In addition, I am able to make the most out of the activities and clubs that belong to our school. After graduating from the Social Sciences University of Ankara, my goal is to return to my country as a more established historian in my field by doing a master's degree abroad. For candidates who will choose my university and department, I recommend this. They are primarily expected to properly study English. In addition, the possibility of learning an additional foreign language be in order to develop in their field will add a lot to them. I can say that our school is a very active and social school with the number of foreign students enrolled in it. We welcome all students who want to live a colorful and social university life at the Social Sciences University of Ankara. I wish success to all students who are preparing for the university exam.
